Franciscan Swimming Splits with Pair of Division II Schools

Score: Franciscan 101, Davis & Elkins 171
Franciscan 149, West Virginia Wesleyan 119

Location: Elkins, W.Va. - George A. Myles Pool

How It Happened
The Franciscan Women's Swimming & Diving made the trip to Davis & Elkins to take on the host Senators and West Virginia Wesleyan. The Barons would fall to the hosts, but defeat Division II, West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Barons started off with a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:03.28. The relay team was comprised of Lucia Garvey, Kristen Farabaugh, Olivia Mete, and Bridget Bartosik. Then Kate Kinst grabbed the first individual second place finish of the day in the 1000 yard free with a time of twelve minutes. Bridget Bartosik would get Franciscan's first win of the day in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:11.26.

Garvey then would claim her first individual, second place finish with a time of 30.27 in the 50 yard backstroke. Franciscan kept up their success in the 200 yard breaststroke with Oliva Mete claiming second place. Bartosik then kept up her strong day with a second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle. Garvey barely missed out on a win in the 100 yard backstroke, as she placed second just seven tenths of a second off the lead. Mete then showed off her stamina with a second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle. Kate Kinst would be the last Baron to place second, as she did so in the 400 IM.

Up Next
Franciscan will not return to competition until next semester. They will travel to Hiram on January 14th to take on Washington & Jefferson and Hiram. Franciscan has won their last three meetings against Hiram, including a 197-109 win earlier this season at Baldwin Wallace. Franciscan fell to Washington & Jefferson last season, but this should be a good test to see where Franciscan ranks among a PAC school, as they approach the PAC Championships in February.
