How It Happened
The Franciscan Women's Swimming & Diving team picked up their first conference win of the season at Bethany on Friday afternoon. Franciscan would win nine events in route to the 126-54 win.
The Barons started off by winning the 200 yard medley relay with a team of Lucia Garvey, Kristen Farabaugh, Olivia Mete, and Anne Konstanty registering a time of 2:05.78. Kate Kinst would then win the first event that she would compete in, the 200 yard freestyle, with a time of 2:10.19. Garvey kept up her success with a strong win in the 100 yard backstroke. Farabaugh would grab her second win of the day as well in the 100 yard breaststroke.
The Bison would then win several events in a row until Anne Konstanty would win the 200 yard breaststroke. Kinst followed that up by showing her stamina in the 500 yard freestyle to earn her second win of the day. Sarah Kelty was the lone swimmer in the 100 yard butterfly, but she still posted a good time of 1:14.78 to secure nine team points. Olivia Mete then secured her first individual win of the day in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:29.24. The Barons ended the meet with a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a team of Sarah Kelty, Julia Lesley, Rachel Comstock, and Kristen Farabaugh.
Up Next
Franciscan will return to the pool next Saturday, as they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan. The Barons battled them last season, but fell to the NCAA Division II program by a score of 149-101. The Bobcats also were able to defeat Bethany this season, as the Bison are the lone common opponent of the Bobcats and Barons thus far.
