Otterbein 7, Franciscan 2

WESTERVILLE, OHIO - Franciscan Women's Tennis held their own against the reigning Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Champions on Monday afternoon, but they would suffer their first loss of the 2022-23 season. Otterbein made it to the second round of the NCAA Championship last season, and are undefeated thus far this season.

Doubles
     In #1 doubles Maria Herrera and Olivia Colby drew a 20+ win duo from last season in Erin Storrer and Emma Henson. They battled back and forth till the end where Otterbein prevailed 8-7 in a final tiebreaker. Kina Ehlers and Claire Cardie almost pulled it off in the #2 pairing, but they would fall 8-6. Estelle Leon and Veronica Saunders paired up together for the second time of the season, but this time was not as successful as the first, as they lost 8-1 in the #3 match.

Singles
    The Barons would keep testing the Cardinals in singles play. Estelle Leon stepped up with a massive win at #4 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. At #1 singles, Maria Herrera pulled off a three set win by scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Her opponent, Erin Storrer, held an 18-2 record in #1 singles matches last season, while she earned a trip to the NCAA Division III Individual Championships last season. Kina Ehlers and Claire Cardie dropped in straight sets in #2 and #3 singles. Margaret Vernau saw her first action in #5 singles, as she lost in straight sets, and Veronica Saunders lost in her first collegiate singles match as she played at the #6 spot.

Franciscan will return home to host Allegheny on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. This has been a long awaited matchup, as the Gators were picked to finish ahead of the reigning PAC Champions.
