Short Story: Franciscan broke several school records in their first meet of the 2023 calendar year.

Results

Race Highlights for the Women
  • In the mile run, Rachel Hurley placed 37th, and Jessica Campbell placed 59th in a field of 75 runners.
  • Four Barons ran in the 400 meter run. Freshman Clara Symington led the way with a time of 1:03.97 to place 33rd in the field of 72 runners. That time was good enough to set a new program record in this event. She finished fourth among runners from the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). Rebecca Bolster placed 50th, Victoria Unnerstall 64th, and Alana Bradford 68th. 
  • Symington posted a time of 28.20 in the 200m to place 67th out of 107 runners. In 89th was Alana Bradford while Bolster and Unnerstall also posted good times.
  • Claire Walters had the best finish of the day for the Barons, as she placed 5th in the 3000m run with a time of 10:38.33. She was the fastest Division III runner in the field of 42 runners. Emma O'Keefe placed 41st in this event.
Race Highlights for the Men
  • Nathaniel Tokarsky ran just under five minutes in the mile to place 79th, and teammate Francis Langley placed 99th.
  • Ryan Ozymy etched his name in the Franciscan record books in the 400 meter with a time of 50.04 to place 6th. He broke the previous record of 50.79 by teammate David Cappello last season. Joseph Rhode also broke that mark, as he placed 12th with a time of 50.66. Dwayne Gethard placed 57th and Aidan Flannery placed 59th in this event in the field of 79 runners.
  • John Sicree would set another school record for Franciscan with a strong showing in the 60m hurdles. He placed 24th out of 44 runners with a time of 9.15 seconds.
  • Cappello kept up the trend of breaking school records with a great run in the 800m. He placed 12th with a time of 1:56.57 to break Miguel Daez's record from 2020. 
  • Joseph Rohde made it four straight events with new school records, as he broke his own record in the 200m. He placed 26th with a time of 22.71 to beat all PAC runners, as well as several Division I runners in this 104-runner event. Ozymy placed 38th, while Antonio Santoro, Isaac Heard, and Francisco Tona posted times around 25 seconds.
  • Five Barons were among the 68 runners in the 3000m, Miguel Daez led the way with a time of 8:49.19 to place 14th. Conal Delaney also broke the nine-minute mark, as he placed 21st. David Di Nardo, Aidan Kay, and Patrick Veazey placed 29th, 64th, and 65th.
  • In the last running event, the 4x400 relay, the Barons placed 17th out of 29 teams with four freshmen on the relay team. Dwayne Gethard, Aidan Flannery, John Sicree, and Alexander Blose combined to run a time of 3:35.98. 
  • In the field events, the Barons broke another school record. Nicholas Brass threw a shot put 12.22 meters to break a nine-year-old record set by Brian Tullier. 
Up Next
The Barons return to action next weekend at Ashland University, as they compete in the Jud Logan Light Giver Open. This will be another great test for the Barons, as they compete against several talented athletes from Division I and II schools throughout the region. The season is ramping up as we enter February with the PAC Championships approaching at the end of the month.
