How It Happened
Franciscan hosted Chatham on Saturday afternoon for a PAC conference matchup at Finnegan Fieldhouse. The sharp-shooting Cougars would jump out to an early lead that the Barons would not be able to overcome.
Chatham would start the game on a 13-0 run until Ilena Gonzales would make a three point field goal with six minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Maria McCallen and Mikayla Doan would add tough buckets in the paint, as the Cougars would take a 28-7 lead into the second quarter. The Barons would get their offense going in the second quarter, as they were able to possess the ball and break the Chatham press much better. Gonzales and Reedy each would make a three pointer this quarter, while the Barons' defense would cause several Chatham turnovers. The Cougars would lead 47-23 at the half.
The Barons would get their offense going in the second half, but unfortunately, the Cougars would stay hot in the third with 30 points in that period. The Barons would score 18 points in the third with most coming in the paint from their talented frontcourt.
