Franciscan 3, Ohio Wesleyan 6
Wheeling, W.Va. -Â Franciscan Women's tennis picked up a non-conference match against Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. The match would be played in Wheeling, West Virginia with high winds and rainy conditions in the Ohio Valley.Â
Doubles
   Franciscan kept up their strong doubles play by winning two of the three matches. The #1 pair of
Olivia Colby and
Maria Herrera picked up their 15th win of the season. That puts them two wins away from the most doubles wins in a season by a Baron, as they are in third all-time. At #2 doubles,
Kina Ehlers and
Claire Cardie took care of business with an 8-3 win. Another freshman duo of
Veronica Saunders and
Margaret Vernau dropped the #3 doubles match by a score of 8-1.
Singles
  The Barons would continue to be led by
Maria Herrera and her historic season. She picked up her 20th win of the season, as he now holds a perfect 17-0 mark in dual matches. She won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. The Barons would battle hard but drop the other five matches. Three of them would go to the third set.
Olivia Colby fell in #3 singles by a score of 6-2, 4-6, 7-10.
Claire Cardie continued to show heart at #4 singles by winning the first set, but then falling 6-4, 10-8 in the last two sets.
Margaret Vernau faired the same, as her tiebreaking third set went back and forth for ahwile till Wesleyan prevailed 14-12.Â
Next Up
Franciscan is scheduled to take on Denison next Saturday in their last scheduled match of the spring semester. This will be the first time that the Barons have battled the Big Red. They are off to a great start to their season with wins over three different ranked opponents, as they are getting into their conference play this semester, unlike the PAC which plays theirs in the fall.
