How It Happened
Franciscan Swimming & Diving resumed the 2023-24 season on Saturday afternoon at home, as they took on Hiram and Washington & Jefferson. The Barons would have several additional swimmers available, who were in Austria last fall, as they would earn a split on Senior Day.

The Barons would pick up their first win of the day in the 1,650 freestyle. Kate Kinst made her season debut after studying abroad in Austria last fall. She would win with a time of 20:22.80 in her first event of the season. Katarina Antonov would also earn a win in her season debut. She swam a time of 2:07.06 in the 200 yard freestyle to earn a win. The Barons would hold a narrow lead, as the meet headed into its' first break.

Antonov would continue her strong day with a win in the 500 freestyle. She won the long event in a time of 5:42.55. Unfortunately, the Presidents would win the final three women's events to earn a win over the Barons. Franciscan would still beat Hiram. 

Up Next
The Barons will head to Latrobe next weekend to take in Saint Vincent and Bethany in a PAC tri-meet. This will be the second time that the Barons and Bison have swam against each other this season. In the first home meet of the season, Franciscan defeated Bethany by a score of 119-63. On the other hand, Franciscan has not beaten Saint Vincent in program history. They have swam against them in each of the last two seasons with the Bearcats winning both meets. This will be a great test for the Barons to see how they rank up with a team that finished second at the PAC Championships last season.
