Franciscan 4, Grove City 3

Grove City, Pa. - These two teams met just a little over a week ago in Steubenville with the Wolverines winning 5-2. They met in the PAC Semifinals last season, and the Wolverines won 5-2.

That was all in the past. The Barons were able to defy the odds and win this PAC Semifinal match to earn a trip to the PAC Championship.

PAC Championship Tournament Bracket

Doubles
   At #3 doubles, Lucy Rochat and Veronica Saunders fell by a score of 6-2, but the Barons other pairings stepped up big. Olivia Colby and Jordan Beltavski remained unbeaten while playing together with a 7-5 win. Kina Ehlers and Claire Cardie came through in the clutch with a win by a score of 7-5 as well. That would give the Barons a 1-0 lead heading into singles, which was a different result from their regular season match.

Singles
   Kina Ehlers would quickly take care of business at # 3 singles with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Olivia Colby would follow suit with scores of 6-4, 6-3 at #2 in a clutch win to put the Barons one point away from the PAC Championship. 

    The Barons would drop matches at #4, #5, and #6, as the scored was then 3-3 with just #1 singles left to play. Claire Cardie dropped the opening set 6-1, but then dug deep to win the second set 6-4. She then kept up that positive momentum, as she won 6-3 in the third to clinch the win by a score of 4-3.

Next Up
    Franciscan will meet #1 Allegheny in the PAC Championship on Monday afternoon in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The Barons are 0-5 all-time against the Gators. This will also be a rematch of the 2022 PAC Championship. In that matchup, the Gators just edged out the Barons by a score of 5-4 to win their first PAC Championship.
