How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Swimming & Diving made the trip to Allegheny to start their season in the same place that it began one year ago. Franciscan would win five events en route to a split of the tri-meet with Allegheny and Hiram.
The Barons' first win of the day came in event three, 1000 yard freestyle. Katarina Antonov posted a time of 12:02.91 to win by nearly 50 seconds over the field. Sophia Gellner would place sixth in that same event.
Kate Kinst picked up the next win with a time of 2:10.56 in the 200 yard freestyle. That time would beat the field by seven seconds, as she opened up the race with an opening 50 yard time of 29.58 seconds. Samantha Walton placed fourth and Carolyn Mohr placed seventh in this event as well to give the Barons additional points.
Jessica Stiles picked up her first win of the season in the 200 yard butterfly, and it was a close one. She would be seven seconds behind her lone competitor halfway through the race, but she would track her down and beat her by less than a second with a time of 2:51.11.
Antonov earned her second win of the day, and this time it would be in the 200 yard breaststroke. She posted a time of 2:47.64 edging out her competition from Allegheny by less than four seconds.
Kinst narrowly lost the 500 yard freestyle. She placed second with a time that was .15 seconds behind the winner in a thrilling marathon race.
The last Baron win came in the final event of the day, 200 yard freestyle relay. Katarina Antonov, Samantha Walton, Jessica Stiles, and Kate Kinst combined to swim a time of 1:50.90. Kinst had the fastest leg of all the Barons with a time of 26.98 seconds as the final swimmer of this relay.

Franciscan Women's Swimming & Diving return to action in two weeks, as they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan. They will take on the hosts and Bethany in a tri-meet. The Barons are 2-1 all-time against the NCAA Division II Bobcats with wins in their last two meetings. The Barons have also had recent success against Bethany with wins in their last 12 meets against them.
