- The Barons began the 2024-25 season by hosting La Roche last Friday. The Redhawks came out on top by a score of 88-36.Â

Ilena Gonzales led the Barons with 14 points, and
Maria McCallen added 11 points. La Roche scored at a high clip in the paint and in transition, which will be an area the Barons look to improve in their second game of the season.

Scouting the Fighting Scots
- Wooster hosted the Nan Nichols Classic to start the season. They fell to Carlow, who the Barons play later this week, 64-59 on Friday evening. Then they beat Thiel 79-70.Â
- Sophomore guard Ace Sturdivant is leading the way on the offensive end. She scored 20 points against Carlow and 29 against Thiel to average 24.5 ppg heading into this matchup. Mackenzie Riccitelli is off to a strong start to her collegiate career by averaging 18.0 ppg over her first two games.
- Last season, Franciscan beat Wooster 64-61 to win the Nan Nichols Classic. Four Barons scored in double-figures, as
Madison Doan led the way with 19 points.

Melnyk Making Moves

Jazzlyn Melnyk enters this game 13th in all-time scoring with 501 points. Marian Weber '11 sits in 12th (508), and Raegen Stead '18 is 11th (515), as Melnyk looks to climb the ranks this season. Lacey Huck '15 is the all-time leading scorer with 1,344 points over four seasons in Steubenville.
- She sits in eighth with 284 rebounds on the Franciscan all-time list. Monica Dawyot '16 is one spot above her with 400 rebounds, and Lacey Huck '15 holds the all-time record with 853.
-Melnyk is 5th in all-time assists with 142 over her career. She is closing in on Gaby DeJesus '19 who is fourth all-time with 157. Monica Dawyot '16 holds the all-time record with 206.Â
- She is also in the Top 10 in steals in a career. She sits in sixth with 109, and is closing in on Head Coach,
Iliana Spoelman '16 (133) to move into fifth. Marian Weber '11 holds the all-time record with 161.

Gonzales Getting it Done
- With 14 points against La Roch,
Ilena Gonzales eclipsed 400 points in her career to have 401 thus far. That ranks her 18th in program history and just eight points away from passing Gaby DeJesus '19. She also led the Barons with six rebounds in that game over La Roche.
