How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Swimming & Diving held their lone home meet of the 2024-25 season on Saturday, hosting Bethany and Grove City in a PAC Tri-Meet. It was also Senior Day for the Barons. Bridget Bartosik, Emma Grojean, Rachel Lomasney, and Jessica Stiles were honored alongside their family and friends before the meet.
The second event of the meet is the 1650yd freestyle. There is only one heat for this race for all three team's swimmers including the GRO and BTH male swimmers. Katarina Antonov's time of 19:54.26 was over a minute off her personal best, but still good enough to be the fastest in the pool including the male swimmers. Kinst took second and Stiles grabbed third completing a Franciscan sweep for the event.
Kate Kinst won the 50yd freestyle with a time of 27.45. That is a fast time this early in the season. For this early in the season, it is two tenths off her personal best of 27.24 which she set at the PAC Championships last spring.
Antonov won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:47.54. Freshmen Lucy King won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:23.44. Kate Kinst grabbed another win in the 200 IMs, and was the last individual winner for Franciscan on the day.
The last win of the day for the Barons was the 400 freestyle relay. The Franciscan team of Antonov, Stiles, Kinst, and freshmen Faith Vande Hey won with a time of 4:14.09. Kinst and Antonov were both part of the team that set the school record last year with a time of 3:51.40, but on Saturday both of their splits were over a minute falling well short of the record setting pace their capable of.

Up Next
Franciscan Women's Swimming & Diving will have a pair of meets in January, as they prepare for the PAC Swimming & Diving Championships which will be on February 19th-22nd. They return to action at Washington & Jefferson on January 11th. There they will take on the Presidents as well as the Terriers from Hiram. Hiram will be a non-conference matchup, but next season, they will be members of the PAC. The Barons beat the Terriers by a score of 175-57 earlier this season at Allegheny, but this will be their first matchup against the Presidents this season.
