Franciscan 7, Baldwin Wallace 0
Not to be confused with the sweep of the Yellow Jackets of the PAC. The Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets traveled to Steubenville to face the Barons for the 5th time. The Barons extended their win-streak to four against them, but today was the first time they swept the Yellow Jackets.Â
Doubles
Even though the new NCAA rule only provides one team point for winning two of three doubles matches, the Barons came out hard with three quick victories in Doubles play. Winning all three matches gave them the one team point and needed to win at least three of the Singles matches.
Singles
  #1 hitter
Claire Cardie realized after one set that she was going to be in a long battle. As she switched sides with her opponent she mentioned to her coach, "this is going to be a long one". Her scorecard appears to be a dominant victory, but it was far from easy. Her opponent made her work for every win. Her 6-3, 6-2 wins took her a long time. Cardie was second to the last to finish her match.
Kina Ehlers on the other hand will most likely role through every one of her opponents as long as she sits at the #3 spot. If you were trying to watch all six matches, each time you came back to Kina she was finishing a set. Before you could get settled she got her doughnuts and grabbed the first Barons singles victory. Both
Margaret Vernau and
Hazel Mistry dropped a set and had to go to a tiebreak set to earn their victories.Â
Next Up
Franciscan will resume PAC play at Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday afternoon. The Barons are looking to keep up their recent success against the Presidents, as they have won the last eight matches against them. Last season, they won 7-2 in Steubenville. Franciscan swept doubles play in the win, but dropped #5 and #6 singles. The Presidents are off to a good start this season with a pair of non-conference wins thus far.
