How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan Women's Basketball hosted Waynesburg in their 24th game of the season on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets took the early edge 16-12 after the opening quarter, but the Barons responded in the second quarter. They held Waynesburg to 0-12 shooting from beyond the arc, while making a trio of treys themselves. They won the second quarter by six to take a two-point lead into halftime. All of this with
Maria McCallen playing limited minutes due to foul trouble.Â
McCallen's minutes became more limited as she picked up her fourth foul a few minutes into the third quarter. Waynesburg responded with a 7-0 run shortly after her exit to gain the momentum. The Yellow Jacket's offense stayed hot with 25 points in the third quarter and 27 in the fourth.
Caroline Reedy was the bright spot for the Barons with 25 points, a career-high for the junior.
Inside the NumbersÂ
- Reedy led all scorers with 25 points, 10 of those points came from the free throw line.
- Clow and Melnyk each made a pair of three-point field goals.
- Waynesburg won the rebounding battle 62-31.
Up NextÂ
Franciscan will conclude the 2024-25 regular season with Senior Day in Steubenville on Saturday. They will host Geneva at 1:00 p.m. in Finnegan Fieldhouse. These two teams played a back-and-forth thriller in January that resulted in the Golden Tornadoes winning.
Maria McCallen led all scorers with 33 points, and Geneva's Emily Garvin dropped 33 points. This Saturday's matchup will surely be a must-see event after Franciscan honors their seniors prior to the start of the game.
