Franciscan 4, Mount Union 3
Wheeling, W.Va. -Â Mount Union came into today's match on a high note, as they beat Geneva last Friday. Earlier in February they lost to Saint Vincent, and now, the Barons were able to take them down with sophomores and freshmen picking up all the points today.Â
Doubles
The Barons lost two of three doubles matches to trail 1-0 heading into singles.
Aaron Heinlein and
Christopher Yvars were able to win at #2 doubles by a score of 6-1.
Aidan Palladino and
David Bourdelais lost by that same score at #1 doubles, and
Jeremiah Greve and
Joel Capellio fared the same at the #3 spot.
Singles
Yvars and Heinlein continued their strong play in singles. Heinlein won 6-4, 6-4 at the #3 spot, and Yvars won 6-4, 6-0 at #4. Palladino and Bourdelais fell at #1 and #3, so the Barons trailed 3-2, as the final two matches took the court.
David Drejza provided the equalizer at the #5 spot, as he won 6-4, 6-2. That was the first collegiate win for the freshman from Arizona, and it tied the score up at 3-3. That left, fellow freshman,
Michael Nolan, as the lone Baron on the court at #6. Nolan took care of his opponent in the opening set by a score of 7-5. The second set was even closer, as it was 6-6 before Nolan won the tiebreaker 7-2 to secure the Barons' first win of 2025.
