#3 Franciscan 4, #6 Westminster 0
Steubenville, Ohio -Â The Barons took care of business at home against Westminster in the PAC Quarterfinal to advance to the conference semifinals for the third consecutive season.Â
Doubles
Franciscan set the tone with strong doubles play that they have had all season.
Aaron Heinlein and
Christopher Yvars won 6-1 at #1, but then
Jeremiah Greve and
Joel Capelli fell at #3. That left it up to
David Bourdelais and
Aidan Palladino at #2. They won 6-4 to secure a 1-0 lead for the Barons and hold the momentum heading into singles play.Â
Singles
Heinlein continued his strong play, as he got the nod at #1 and won in straight sets. The Barons needed to win just two more matches to secure the victory, and
David Bourdelais and
David Drejza pulled through at #4 and #6 to secure the 4-0 win.
Michael Nolan also was leading at the #5 spot if needed, but the Barons did not need it, as they secured the win in their home finale.
Next Up
Franciscan will advance into the PAC Semifinal to take on #2 Grove City on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. These two teams played in Wheeling around the end of March with the Wolverines winning by a score of 5-2. Franciscan won one doubles match and a pair of singles matches in the loss, as they look to improve upon their past results at their place on Thursday.
