STEUBENVILLE, OHIO -Â Franciscan Women's Tennis hosted Capital on Monday afternoon for their 2025-26 home opener at Belleview Courts. Fans were in store for a great back-and-forth match that led to the Barons second win of the season, as they improved to 2-0 on the young season.

Maggie Gallagher and
Elizabeth Swift were the first off the court, as they won 6-2 at #3. The #1 pair of
Claire Cardie and
Kina Ehlers fell at #1, but they were picked up by
Jordan Beltavski and
Lucy Rochat at #2. They came through in the deciding match by a score of 6-4 to give the Barons a 1-0 edge.Â
Singles
  The Comets leveled it a 1-1 with a win at #5 over
Audrey Huckestein. Fellow freshman,
Colette Park picked her up with her first collegiate win at #6 to give the Barons the lead back at 2-1. Once again, we were tied after a straight sets decision at #3.Â
  With three matches left, the Barons needed at least two wins to secure the match.
Kina Ehlers came through at #2. The first set was pretty stress-free at 6-2, but the second set was a true back-and-forth test of some great play. Ehlers prevailed 7-5 to avoid the tiebreaker and give the Barons another lead.
Claire Cardie, like her doubles partner, pulled through when the team needed it. She won 6-4 in the first set and then rallied to win the second in a tiebreaker to give the Barons the victory as a team.Â

Lauren Schoenberger battled back after a first set loss to win the second, but then she fell 10-7 in the tiebreaker. Nonetheless, the Barons secured a 4-3 win
Next Up
  Franciscan will begin PAC play on Thursday at home against Waynesburg. The Barons are 5-0 all-time against the Yellow Jackets, including a 7-0 win last season. The Barons swept the doubles matches in that victory,a nd they were dominant in singles play. Waynesburg enters this match with an 0-1 record after falling to Penn State Altoona on August 31st.
