Kinst Reaches the Podium to Lead the Barons on Day #3

How It Happened
Morning Prelims
Avery Schmitz was the first Baron in the pool. She improved on her seed time in the 100 butterfly by placing 20th with a time of 1:19.00. Kate Kinst improved her time by five seconds in the 200 freestyle to make the evening finals in the eighth spot. Rachel Pergi placed 15th with a time of 2:16.65 to move onto the evening as well. Mary Therese Frank placed 10th in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:22.95. In the last event, Haley Fifield placed ninth in the 100 backstroke, as she narrowly missed making the final heat by less than two tenths of a second. 

Evening Finals
Kinst was the first Baron to reach the podium as an individual. She placed 8th in the 200 freestyle by improving her time even more from the morning. Mary Therese Frank remained in 10th in the 100 breaststroke for an impressive finish by the first-year swimmer. Fifield held ninth in the 100 backstroke, as the Barons continued to rack up points on Friday night. 

In the final event, 200 freestyle relay, the group of Pergi, Frank, Schmitz, and Fifield placed seventh. They improved significantly off of their seed time by posting a time of 1:51.82.

With 38 points on the day, the Barons remained in seventh out of nine competing teams, and they are still in striking distance of climbing up to the middle of the conference on the final day. 

Up Next 
The final day of the PAC Swimming and Diving Championships will be a busy one for the Barons. In the morning preliminaries, Franciscan will have swimmers in the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 1650 freestyle. Those swimmers look to make it to the evening finals which will have those events, as well as the 400 freestyle relay.
