Today's senior spotlight is
Madison Kozares, a three-year member of the softball team from Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. She has played and started in 58 games so far as Baron, and she looks to bring her best in her final season. The Early Childhood Education major excelled in the classroom as well. She was named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll and a NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete last season.
What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming season?
Kozares: I'm excited to get back on the field and compete every day. I'm looking forward to raising the bar, pursuing our goals, and making the most of my last season with my teammates. I can't forget the spring break trip!
What is your most memorable moment at Franciscan throughout your career?
Kozares: Honestly, every day has been memorable to me, but a few moments really stand out. Joining the softball team and being welcomed right away meant a lot to me. The Myrtle Beach trip was always an adventure especially the 12-hour van ride with Lauren and Liv, laughing nonstop while they cracked jokes the whole way. And lastly, being asked by Coach Dan Corbett to take on a captain role was something I'll never forget.
What are your plans after graduating from Franciscan?
Kozares: I plan to earn my teaching license in Pennsylvania and then start my career as a kindergarten or first-grade teacher.
Who has made the biggest impact on your life?
Kozares: My mom, I truly wouldn't be where I am today without her. She's helped me through everything and pushed me when I needed it most. Also, my coach Dani Pillar. She challenged me to be the best version of myself, and I'm so thankful for her. I'm blessed to have been coached by her. She helped me love the sport again and believed in me when I didn't believe in myself.
What is the best piece of advice that you can give to the incoming freshmen at Franciscan?
Kozares: Trust God's plan, even when it doesn't make sense at first. Stay rooted in prayer, and He'll guide you where you're meant to be.
