How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan made the short trip to Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday evening for their second meeting of the season. Like the first matchup between these teams, the President took an early lead in the first quarter. W&J shot over 50% from the floor in the first 10 minutes, while Franciscan struggled to take the lead. The Barons got their offense going in the second quarter. McCallen scored seven points, and Melnyk added six. These two teams went toe-to-toe with the Presidents barely edging out the Barons over these 10 minutes. The Barons trailed 39-19 at halftime. In the third, the Barons maintained some good offensive sets and got quality looks. Unfortunately, the Presidents were able to do the same and hit the three ball. The #1 team in the PAC South grew their lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Gemma Biasutto helped the Barons finish strong. She scored five of her six points in the final frame, while helping them put up 13 more points.Â
Inside the NumbersÂ
- Melnyk led the Barons with 14 points. She has scored in double-digits in four straight games.
- McCallen had 13 points and seven rebounds.
- The Barons had less turnovers than the Presidents.
- DeRubbo led all scorers with 23 points, including 5-5 on three-point field goals.Â
Up NextÂ
Franciscan will return home to take on Geneva this Saturday. They played a pair of high scoring games last season, but this will be their lone meeting of the 2025-26 season. The Barons are in search of their first win against the Golden Tornadoes since the 2019-20 season.Â
