Barons Defeat Golden Tornadoes in Home Opener

STEUBENVILLE, OHIO - Franciscan women's tennis hosted Geneva College on Tuesday afternoon for its 2026-27 home opener at Belleview Courts. The Barons started off conference play strong, earning a 5-2 decision in its favor.

Doubles
Jordan Beltavski and Colette Park were first on the court for the Barons. The pair lost to the visitors by a score of 6-3. The #2 pair of Sophia Pastura and Elizabeth Swift got the hosts' first win of the day with a 6-0 decision, and the #3 pair of Hazel Mistry and Paige Mattle won as well, with a 6-2 score. 

Singles
 The Tornadoes leveled it a 2-2 with a win at #1 over Beltavski. After this, it was all Franciscan, with Colette Park at #2, Paige Mattle at #4, and Mila Esposito at #5 securing wins to seal the opening victory for the Barons. Park won with a decision of 6-4, 3-6, and 7-5, while Esposito and Mattle each won in two sets. Emily Hunter also won for Franciscan in the #6 slot.

Franciscan will continue its opening homestand Friday, playing against Fredonia at 4:30 PM.
