The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) announced the women's tennis weekly awards on Monday afternoon, with Franciscan freshman
Paige Mattle (Perkasie, Pa. / Mount St. Joseph Academy) earning Newcomer of the Week honors.
Mattle posted a 3-1 record in singles and doubles play last week, as the Barons went 3-0 against Division III opponents to lead her team to a 4-0 start to the season. After a straight-set win at No. 2 against Carlow (6-2, 6-0), she scored 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 victories at No. 3 singles against Fredonia and Capital, respectively. Mattle was paired with
Hazel Mistry for doubles wins in all three matches.
The Barons will next compete at Westminster College on September 23rd at 4:30 PM, which will be the squad's first conference road match of the season. Franciscan holds a 1-0 record in conference play, while the Titans are 0-1.
