NEW WILMINGTON and WAYNESBURG, Pa. - Franciscan women's tennis returned to conference action on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, playing at Westminster on the former day and at Waynesburg on the latter day. After back-to-back days of action, the Barons beat Westminster by a score of 5-2 and beat Waynesburg by a score of 7-0.

How It Happened (at Westminster)

Doubles

In doubles, Jordan Beltavski and Colette Park won at the #1 spot by a score of 7-5. Elizabeth Swift and Sophia Pastura fell in #2 doubles, but Paige Mattle and Hazel Mistry sealed the doubles team win by taking the #3 match by a score of 6-3. 

Singles

In singles, Beltavski played in the #1 slot, falling in three sets. In the #2 position, Park won the first set 6-2, then overcame a set two defeat by winning set three by the slimmest of margins (7-6). Mattle went on to win at #3 in two sets fairly easily, winning 6-3, 6-1, while Pastura won at #4 in two sets as well (scores of 7-5 and 6-1). Hazel Mistry won in two sets at the #5 position, and Therese Bailargeon played at #6, losing both of her sets.
 

How It Happened (at Westminster)

Doubles

The pairings remained the same as it was Wednesday, and Park and Beltavski won at the #1 spot 6-1. Pastura and Swift fell by a score of 6-4, while Mistry and Mattle won 6-3 to seal the doubles win for the Barons.

Singles

Beltavski started the Barons out strong in singles, getting win at the #1 spot in singles, with scores of 6-4 both sets. Park followed, winning 6-2, 6-0. Mattle was back again playing in the #3 position, and she was victorious in two sets as well. Pastura was at #4, winning 6-1, 7-5, while Swift out dueled her opponent in three sets to win. Mila Esposito completed the sweep with a 6-1, 7-5 decision in two sets.

Next Up

Franciscan will next compete Monday afternoon at 4:30 PM, hosting Grove City. The matches, as will all home matches, will be played at the Belleview Tennis Courts.
