STEUBENVILLE, OHIO -Â Franciscan women's tennis hosted Carlow University Tuesday afternoon for its first match in a week. The first non-conference match of the season, the Barons went on to sweep the visitors by a score of 7-0.
Doubles
Sophia Pastura and
Elizabeth Swift were first to be on the court for the Barons. The pair won their match by a score of 6-4. Next was the #2 pair of
Hazel Mistry and
Paige Mattle, winning their duel by a decision of 6-3.
Colette Park and
Emily Hunter completed the doubles sweep with a 6-0 decision.Â
Singles
The Barons stayed perfect throughout singles, with Park at #1 winning 6-3 in back to bask sets. Mattle won at #2 in two sets as well with a 6-2, 6-0 result. At #3, Pastura entered a 1-0 set deficit, but found a way to win sets 2 (6-4) and 3 (10-7) to continue to shut out Carlow. Mistry finalized the 7-0 team score with a two-set sweep at the #4 singles position (6-3, 6-0). In the other sets,
Mila Esposito and
Therese Bailargeon each won in two sets.
Next Up
Franciscan will finalize its opening three-match homestand Thursday at 3 PM against Fredonia. The match was originally scheduled for last Friday but was cancelled due to inclement weather.
