Vincent Oliver has been Head Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach at Franciscan University since 2010, and he has been employed at Franciscan University for the past 17 years in the Physical Plant Services Department as the Project Coordinator.
The 2022-23 season was a very successful one which culminated with Claire Walters earning a spot in the NCAA National Championship in the 1500m. She placed 19th in her home state of New York, as she became the second female runner in school history to make it to the National Championship. Franciscan earned All-PAC honors in seven events on the women's side this season. On the men's side, they would earn 13 different All-PAC honors, while breaking numerous Indoor and Outdoor records throughout the season.
For the 2021-22 Indoor Season, Franciscan had fourteen runners earn All-PAC honors from their stellar performance at the PAC Indoor Championship. The Men's Team fell just 17 points short of their first ever conference title. Liam Galligan was named Track Athlete of the Year for winning the mile, 3000m, and 5000m. Galligan also became the first Indoor runner in school history to qualify for the NCAA National Championship, which he did so in the mile.Â
In the 2020 season the Men's and Women's Track teams joined the PAC conference. The Barons earned a 6th place finish and earned five medals, including two golds, two silvers and a bronze. Miguel Diaz won the 800 meter dash and Mark Borek won the 5000 meter run to earn golds. The Lady Barons placed 10th out of ten teams in their first PAC Indoor Championship. The outdoor portion of the season, including the Outdoor PAC Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak all across the world in the spring of 2020.
Coach Oliver has over 30 years of coaching experience at various levels of Track & Field, Football and Basketball. Coach Oliver is a Committee Member of the All-Ohio Track & Field Collegiate Championships and a voting member of the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Coach Oliver has also served as Athletic Director at Catholic Central High School in Steubenville, Ohio.
Coach Oliver is a life long resident of the Steubenville area and attended Catholic Central High School and Slippery Rock University. He is the son of Vincent C. Oliver and Alyce Sue Oliver. Coach Oliver is married to Nancy and is the proud father of six children - Isabella, Vincent Jr., Austin, Brittney, Taylor and Zachary and two grandchildren - Allie Grace and Enzo Charles. He and his family currently reside in Weirton, WV. and are members of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Weirton.
