BRADFORD, PA – Junior Katie Kilian (Ventura, CA/Saint John Paul the Great) provided fireworks midway through the second overtime period as she scored the game-winning goal to give the Franciscan women's soccer team a 4-3 2OT win over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe, Pitt.-Bradford, Saturday afternoon.
After the Lady Barons took the lead late in the second half, Pitt.-Bradford continued to pressure the Franciscan backline and the Panthers found the back of the net for the third time to tie the game at 3-3 with less than a minute to play. Neither team could get a shot off in the final 58 seconds and the two teams headed into overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime which featured just two shots, both by Franciscan, the game came down to its final 10 minutes. Pitt.-Bradford got the first two shots off, but it was Kilian's that really counted as she took a rebound away from a charging keeper and shot it out of her reach for the golden goal in the 104th minute. It was Kilian's second career game-winning goal and first this season. With the win, the Lady Barons improve to 5-8 on the year and 4-2 in the conference.
Franciscan got on the board first late in the first half as Kilian scored in the 41st minute off an assist from freshman Clare Burgess (Nokesville, VA/Seton). The Panthers answered quickly, however, with a goal just over three minutes later to tie the game 1-1. The tie would carry into the second half as senior keeper Sarah Luebking (Littleton, CO/Columbine) made a stop with 31 seconds to go before the break.
Bradford took its first and only lead in the contest 13 minutes into the second half off of a converted penalty kick, but sophomore Kaitrin O'Leary (Sidney, OH/Lehman) found the back of the net as she collected a through ball up the middle from senior Elizabeth Dawyot (Landendberg, PA/Kennett) and shot it past the keeper to her right.
The Lady Barons retook the lead with just over 15 minutes to play as freshman Annie Beckman(Ann Arbor, MI/Dexter) collected the rebound off of Dawyot's saved shot off a corner kick skipped it by the goalie.
Franciscan held on to the narrow one-goal lead until the game-tying goal came for the Panthers in the 90th minute.
Kilian and Dawyot led the Lady Barons in shots with five each while the Panthers out-shot the Lady Barons 19-16. Luebking finished the day with with four saves.
The Lady Barons return to action on Wednesday as they host Mount Aloysius in an AMCC match at 1:00 pm.
