BUFFALO, NY – The Franciscan women's soccer team's season ended Saturday afternoon as the sixth-seeded Lady Barons fell to No. 3 D'Youville, 2-0.
The Spartans quickly got on the board first as Makenna Magee scored off a loose ball in the box just 1:43 into action to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. D'Youville pushed its lead to 2-0 just over three minutes later as Magan Magee scored off a corner kick by Kaylee Heschke.
The 2-0 advantage held for the rest of the half as neither team was able to get another shot on net in the final 40 minutes of the first.
Coming out of the break, Franciscan got its first shot off as a hard shot from sophomore Sarah Cocozza was stopped by DYC keeper, Megan Dulniak, in the 49th minute. Franciscan's offense began to pick up as junior Hannah Doyle and Cocozza each got a shot off in the next 15 minutes but could not find the back of the net. Junior Kelsey Scott-Avery and freshman Mary Rooney each put a shot on net but Dulniak turned them away to preserve her shutout.
Sophomore Gracie Tillman got the final shot of the game off in the 86th minute but could not get it past Dulniak and the final horn sounded with the Spartans holding the 2-0 advantage.
D'Youville outshot the Lady Barons by a slim 7-6 margin for the game, despite Franciscan holding a 6-3 advantage in shots in the second half.
Senior Sarah Luebking made one save in her final game as Lady Baron and finishes her career with a record 284 saves. Luebking's finished her career with a 1.64 GAA and a .751 save percentage. Luebking won 23 games in her four years as a Lady Baron, setting a program career wins record.
The Lady Barons wrap up their season with a 5-11-1 overall record and finished 4-4-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. D'Youville improved to 6-10-2 on the year and will travel to the second-seeded Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday for a 5:00 pm game.
