STEUBENVILLE – Franciscan lost 70-58 in the AMCC matchup against Medaille on Saturday afternoon. After a valiant effort in the second half, the Lady Barons failed to match the Mavericks' intensity. Medaille outscored Franciscan 40-28 in the first half, but Franciscan matched every point in the second half.

Medaille took an early lead, sinking 4 of 6 three pointers in the first quarter. Franciscan did not have as strong of an offensive push in the first quarter, only making 5-16 shots from the floor. Two free throws added to the Lady Baron's offensive effort in the first quarter. The Mavericks closed out the first quarter with a lead of 17-12.

In the second quarter, Medaille continued to dominate offensively, but Franciscan was unwilling to give up. The Mavericks had another strong offensive quarter, shooting 60% from the floor and drained 3-7 three pointers. The Lady Barons attempted to match Medaille's intensity, putting up two three pointers and twelve points of jump shots. The Mavericks still managed to outscore them 23-16, taking their lead into the second half.

The Lady Barons began their comeback in the third quarter, matching each point the Mavericks made. Franciscan only allowed thirteen points to be scored in the third quarter and scored thirteen of their own. The Lady Barons came within six points throughout the quarter, but never broke the Maverick's lead. Medaille closed out the third quarter 58-41.
Although Franciscan put in yet another valiant effort in the fourth quarter, matching each point Medaille scored, it was not enough to top the Mavericks. The Lady Barons fell to Medaille 70-58.

The Lady Barons shot 30.9% from the floor and went 2-15 from the three-point line. Kaitlyn Sonneberger lead Franciscan in points, putting up 18. Freshman Grace Godich lead the Lady Barons in rebounds with 10 boards.

Franciscan will host its next AMCC matchup against Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday, January 30 at 6 PM.
