Lady Barons Fall to Panthers

BRADFORD, PA: The Lady Barons battle, but two cold shooting quarters help propel the Panthers to their first win of the year.

The Basics
Scores: Franciscan 47 - Pitt.-Bradford 63
Records: Franciscan (2-5 , 1-3 AMCC) - Pitt.-Bradford (1-7 , 1-3 AMCC)
Location: KOA Arena - Bradford, PA

How it Happened
  • The Lady Barons and Panthers would battle back and forth in the first quarter, as they would combine to shoot nearly 50% from the floor. Kelsey Scott-Avery started the action off by hitting her first of four threes on the day. Selena Coronis added a jumper to give Franciscan a 5-2 edge. Coronis would have eight first quarter points to lead all Lady Baron players.Franciscan would hold the largest lead at 16-11 with 2:51 left in the quarter, but the Panthers would on a 8-2 run to take a 19-18 lead to the second.
  • Franciscan came out ice cold in the second, and the Panthers weren't much better. Bradford would start the first near seven minutes of the quarter on a 5-0 run, before Clare McGahan converted a three. That would be the Lady Barons only bucket of the quarter as they shot an abysmal 8.3% for the quarter. The Panthers would lead 28-21 at half.
  • Franciscan would come out shooting in the second half. They were down 23-31 before they went on a 9-0 run with two Scott-Avery threes and Abby Baierl adding another, to give the Lady Barons a 32-31 edge with 6:17 left in the quarter. The Panthers would respond as they would take back the lead and stretch it up to five with 3:29 to play. Baierl and Scott-Avery would add a pair of jumpers to head to the last down by only one point.
  • The Lady Barons would continue their run as Rose Judge made a layup, and Baierl added another three to give Franciscan a four point edge. Unfortunately the Barons would only make one more basket in the quarter as a Panther 12-0 run would give them a commanding eight point edge wiith 2:21 left in the game. Baierl added her last bucket to cut it toa six point game, but the Panthers would end on a 10-0 run including a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.
