BRADFORD, Pa. – Franciscan fell to AMCC opponent, Pitt-Bradford, on Monday evening by a score of 65-48.
The Lady Barons had a successful first quarter, matching Pitt-Bradford's offensive intensity. Franciscan tied up the score after trailing for the first seven minutes of the game. Pitt-Bradford pulled ahead and finished the first quarter with a lead of one point, 18-17. Freshman
Tessa Crider hit a deep three, answering to Pitt-Bradford's best shooter. Freshman
Tia Taglione added two points to the offensive initiative, as did junior
Abby Baierl.
The first points of the second quarter were a three-pointer from Pitt-Bradford's best shooter, almost four minutes into the quarter. Franciscan answered with a good layup in the paint from Crider. Possession bounced back and forth between the two teams. Freshman
Angela Starre scored a breakaway layup to tie the game up yet again. Despite the newfound offensive momentum, the Panthers went on a nine-point scoring run, solidifying their lead into the second half.
Franciscan scored the first points of the second half, cutting Pitt-Bradford's lead. The Panthers grew their lead to 18, dominating the Lady Barons' defense in the second half. The Lady Barons worked to cut the lead back down but came up short in the third quarter. The score was 49-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Pitt-Bradford took control of the game, increasing their lead to 23 points. The Lady Barons were unsuccessful in coming within 10 points of the Panthers. Franciscan ended the game with a good layup in the paint from Baierl, with a score of 65-48.
The Lady Barons shot 29.2% from the floor and were 5-16 at the free throw line. Baierl lead the team offensively with 12 points. Taglione also contributed with nine points. The Lady Barons also had 39 rebounds for the night.
Franciscan will be on the road for its next conference game against Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday, February 13 at 6 PM.
