STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan women's basketball team fell to the Hilbert Hawks on Saturday, February 9 in Finnegan Fieldhouse. Franciscan celebrated senior night, honoring senior
Gaby De Jesus and Reagan Stead. The Lady Barons took the lead in the third quarter, but turnovers and missed opportunities cost Franciscan the game.
The Hilbert Hawks took the early lead in the first quarter. Stead scored the first points for the Lady Barons, putting them on the board. Two more jump shots from freshman
Grace Godich and junior
Kaitlyn Sonneberger made up the Lady Baron's points for the first quarter. Franciscan trailed by 11 points to end the quarter.
Junior
Abby Baierl started the quarter off with two points, cutting Hilbert's lead to nine points. A good layup form Stead put the Lady Barons within seven. Franciscan began minimizing turnovers and cutting the Hawk's lead. Hilbert quickly regained their footing, scoring a three-pointer and breakaway layup. The Hawks took back their twelve-point lead. The Lady Barons finished with two more jump shots, closing out the first half down by eight.

Angela Starre contributed to the offensive effort with four points each. The Lady Barons tied up the score and took up their first lead of the game. Hilbert did not allow Franciscan too much hope and stole the lead back from under their feet. The Hawks went on a 15-point scoring run to close the third quarter.
The Lady Barons trailed the Hawks by 13 points going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Barons came within 10 points, but never broke through Hilbert's lead again. The final score was 69-54.
Franciscan shot 37.9% from the floor and totaled 30 rebounds for the game. Freshman
Angela Starre had a double-double, putting up 12 points, and had 10 boards.
The Lady Barons will be on the road for their next AMCC matchup against Pitt Bradford on Monday, February 11 at 4 PM.
