STEUBENVILLE - The Franciscan women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference game to visiting Ohio Valley University, 16-5, Thursday afternoon. 

On a blustery day at Memorial Field, the Fighting Scots got out to a quick lead over the Lady Barons with four goals in the first eight minutes of action. Sophomore Maria Hilkert cut the lead down to two with a pair of goals for the Lady Barons in a matter of two minutes. 

The Fighting Scots got both goals back with 4:18 to play before freshman Grace Deegan halted the OVU run with her 15th goal of the young season thanks to an assist from senior Carly McDonald. The Fighting Scots ended the first half with a pair of goals to take an 8-3 lead into halftime. 

After the break, Ohio Valley University rattled off four-straight goals to push its lead to 12-3 with 21:03 left in the game. Deegan posted her second of the game and 16th of the season with 17:48 to play to break up the OVU run. The Fighting Scots pushed their lead to 16-4 with 10:46 left before McDonald scored the game's final goal with a minute left to finalize the 16-5 score. 

Deegan led the Lady Barons with a pair of goals and an assist while senior Elizabeth Jordan won five draw controls, caused five turnovers, and picked up three ground balls. Sophomore Maddy Smith caused four turnovers and picked up five ground balls for the Lady Barons. Senior Brittany Bain made 18 saves for Franciscan in net. 

Franciscan will head to Ave Maria, FL on Saturday for spring break. The Lady Barons will face off against Ave Maria on Monday at 3:00 pm.
