WASHINGTON, Pa. – Despite a second half surge, the Franciscan women's lacrosse team fell to Washington & Jefferson, 15-4, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon.
After a 9-0 first half for the Presidents, the Lady Barons got on the board as senior
Carly McDonald found the back of the net for the first time in the game to cut the lead to 9-1 just 2:28 into the second half. W&J posted two more goals to push its lead to 11-1 with 23:00 to play in the half.
With 17:44 to play, the Lady Barons were awarded a free position shot but didn't have the open path to the goal so Franciscan ran its offense. Senior
Elizabeth McEntee got the ball to sophomore
Maria Hilkert who buried her 12
th goal of the season with 17:07 to play. McDonald scored back-to-back goals for the Lady Barons for the first time in the game just two minutes late to cut the lead to 11-3.
After eight minutes of scoreless lacrosse, senior
Elizabeth Dawyot scored the Lady Barons third-straight goal to cut the lead down to seven, 11-4, with 7:07 to play. Rae LaRochelle halted the Lady Baron run with her 24
th goal of the season with 6:20 play to push the W&J lead to 12-4.
Washington & Jefferson ended the game on a four-goal run to seal the 15-4 victory and hand the Lady Barons their first PAC loss of the year.
Dawyot led the Lady Barons with six draw controls while freshman
Margaret McKee caused two tunrovers. Senior
Brittany Bain made 15 saves in net for the Lady Barons.
Franciscan returns home on Tuesday as they host St. Vincent on Memorial Field. The opening draw is set for 4:00 pm.
