STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan men's lacrosse team wrapped up the 2019 season as they fell to Grove City, 21-3, Saturday afternoon.
On a windy and chilly Saturday afternoon, the Wolverines raced out to a 7-0 lead after just six minutes of action. Senior
Dan McCartney got the Barons on the board with his 31
st goal of the season as he scooped up the ball in transition and took it to the cage himself to cut the lead to 7-1 with 8:50 to go.
The Wolverines added two more to push their lead to 9-1 at the end of the first.
Junior
Joe Bartholomaus netted his third of the season five minutes into the second quarter thanks to an assist from
Jonathan Bookwalter, but Grove City closed out the half with a 3-0 run to take a 12-1 lead at the break.
Grove City extended its lead to 18-2 with six-straight goals to open the third quarter. McCartney cut the lead back to 18-3 with 2:11 to play with his 33
rd of the year. The Wolverines got closed out the quarter with their 19
th goal with 1:17 to play in the quarter.
The Wolverines out-scored the Barons 2-0 in the final quarter to seal the 21-3 win.
Sophomore
Grant McKeown made 16 saves in the loss for the Barons. Sophomore
William Muraski finished the day five ground balls and five caused turnovers. McCartney led the team with six ground balls.
Franciscan wrapped up the season at 0-15 and 0-6 in its first season in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
