Men's Basketball Takes Winning Streak to Buffalo

STEUBENVILLE, OH- Franciscan has now won two straight as they knocked off #1 La Roche Wednesday night at home 72-71. D'Youville just earned their first AMCC win on Wednesday in their victory over Pitt.-Bradford. This starts Franciscan's most physically demanding test of the season as Saturday marks the start of four games in seven days.

All-Time Series Against D'Youville
  • Franciscan is 6-14 all-time against D'Youville, with a split in last season's matchups.
  • In last season's first meeting in December, D'Youville won on Kuzma Court 72-69. D'Youville was in control for most of this one, but Franciscan was able to grab the lead twice in the second half but never extend it out much. The Spartans out scored the Barons in the paint 40-22. Four Spartans scored in double figures, while Sean Hickey score a game high 17 points to lead Franciscan in defeat.
  • Last season in Buffalo, the Barons came out on top 89-82. Matt Trent recorded his career high of 27 points, hence the Barons and Spartans were tied in points in the paint at 42-42 this time around. Four other Barons scored in double figures as follows: Hickey (15), Schriner (14), York (11) and Noce (10). Jer VanDuluitgaarden scored his career high of 31 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.
Scouting Franciscan
  • Travis Lien has now clearly earned his way back into the starting lineup. He is averaging 19.0 ppg and 6.3 rpg in his four games back from studying abroad in Austria.
  • Sean Hickey has continued to be the Barons go to guy as he is averaging 16.4 ppg, 5th most in the AMCC. He is also 9th in the conference by shooting 42.1% from behind the three point line.
  • Drazen Frankovitch scored his career high 15 points at a great time in the win against La Roche on Wednesday. Since returning from injury, and still not 100%, he is averaging 10.0 ppg.
Scouting D'Youville
  • D'Youville has struggled on the defensive end all season, as they allow the most points per game of any AMCC team at 91.4. Opponents have scored 100+ on six different occasions this season.
  • Forward Grant Beyer has led the Spartans offense by averaging 14.1 ppg so far this season. He has five 20+ point games this season.
  • Three other Spartans are averaging double figure points: Darrius Hartzog 12.5 ppg, Juan Miguel Rosales 11.9 ppg and Devon Darrell 11.5 ppg. Darrell is also 2nd in the AMCC at 4.1 apg.
