Barons Next Test - Wednesday Night Against the Lions

STEUBENVILLE, OH - Franciscan is coming into this game after a much needed win against Pitt.-Bradford on Saturday, but they are still on the outside looking in to the AMCC playoffs, as they are currently in 8th place. The Lions are in 5th in the AMCC currently, as they just beat D'Youville on Saturday.

All-Time Series Against Penn St. Altoona
  • Franciscan is 4-19 all-time against Penn St. Altoona, and they have not played them this year yet.
  • The Barons got he better of the Lions in their first meeting 99-91 at Altoona. The Barons were up by six with a minute to go in regulation and nearly blew it, as the Lions made a run to send it into overtime. The Barons were dominant in overtime as they would outscore the Lions 14-6, including an 8-8 performance from the free throw line. Sean Hickey scored his career high of 27 points, and Travis Lien scored his freshman season high of 14 points in the victory. 
  • The Barons lost at home 74-72 in a game where the Lions won the second half by 12 points. The Lions also dominated the paint by outscoring the Barons 52-26 on the night. 
Scouting Franciscan
  • The Barons now have five players averaging double figures in points as follows: Travis Lien 17.8, Sean Hickey 15.6, Matt Trent 14.1, Joe Schriner 10.4 and Drazen Frankovitch 10.2.
  • Senior Matt Trent has been at his best over the last four games. He is averaging 18 ppg over that stretch.
  • The Barons have struggled at giving opponents too many good looks, as opponents shot at a 47.4%, giving the Barons the worst field goal percentage defense in the AMCC.
Scouting Penn St. Altoona
  • The Lions have numerous offensive weapons, as four scorers average greater than 10.0 ppg. Jack Kusters leads the way at 15.5 ppg, Andruw Harman 13.1 ppg, Robbie Hicks 12.8 and Cameron Gardner-Nicholson 11.4. 
  • Gardner-Nicholson, the 6'9" center from Philadelphia, PA, is leading the AMCC in field goal percentage at 68.5%. He is also 3rd in the AMCC at 9.1 rpg.
  • Senior Austiin Krise is the first man off the bench most nights, but may earn a start after his strong play Saturday. Krise went 5 of 5 from three on his way to score a season high 23 points. He is currently first in the AMCC in three point field goal percentage at 51.3%.
