How it Happened
- The first quarter was very back and forth to start, as it would be 9-9, with five minutes to play, before Estelle Leon made a bucket to give the Lady Barons an edge. Franciscan would pull the lead up to six, as Rose Judge made a pair of free throws and Abby Baierl made a layup. The Lady Barons ended the quarter strong with Angela Stare and Leon connecting on layups. Leon would score 10 of her 18 points in the opening quarter.
- Starre opened up the second quarter by making a three pointer, but the Lady Lions would respond in a big way this quarter. A 6-0 Altoona run would cut it to five, and the Lady Barons were back into a back and forth battle. Kelsey Scott-Avery and Ciana Vaughan would make their first bucket this quarter to help Franciscan stay ahead, but the Lady Lions offense continually responded. Kassidy Sorichetti would make a pair of free throws with one minute left in the half to give the Lady Lions the lead for the first time since early in the first quarter. Baierl answered by making a late jumper to send them into the half with a lead, but they were slightly down mentally after losing the quarter by seven points.
- Kaitlyn Sonneberger would make the first bucket of the second half to give the Lady Barons a three point lead, but that lead was quickly vanished by a pair of Lady Lion layups. The Lady Lions would lead the rest of the quarter, as they would shoot 56.3% from the field this quarter. Sonneberger made another jumper to get the Lady Barons within two with 8:01 to play. A Lady Lion 14-1 run would take over this game, until Rose Judge made a layup to send Franciscan to the 4th down by 12 points and quite deflated.
- The Lady Barons did not show any signs of quitting as they came into the fourth firing on all cylinders. Scott-Avery and Baierl connected on back to back threes, and Leon added a layup in the early going. Baeirl would remain hot as she made another three and a layup to cut it to a two point game with 6:33 to play. Scott Avery and Baierl would connect on another pair of threes to give the Lady Barons a four point lead with 2:15 to play. A Lady Lion's add one cut it to one point, but senior Ciana Vaughan made one of her biggest shots of her career to give the Lady Barons a three point lead with under a minute to play. The Lady Lions would try multiple sets down the stretch, but the Lady Barons defense and rebounding ability held strong as it did all day to lead them a massive victory.
