How it Happened
  • This game would start out similar to the men's game before as both teams would  start off cold from the field. Eventually Estelle Leon would make back to back buckets to be trailing 7-6 halfway through the first quarter. A 5-0 Lions run would give them a commanding six point lead. Angela Starre would make her first bucket to end the run, but Caitlin Carnuche would heat up to score seven points in the final two minute, giving them a nine point lead at the break.
  • The Lions would stretch the lead up to ten points in the early goings of the second quarter, but the Lady Barons would chip away at it this quarter. A 5-0 run would cut it in half, as Leon made a jumper and Starre made another three. Kaitlyn Sonneberger would join the scoring column as her jumper would cut it to one point with under a minute to play. Jordan Swartz made a late jumper to give the Lions the three point halftime lead.
  • The Lady Barons would keep fighting, and they would take the lead by one on a pair of Leon free throws, halfway through the third quarter. The Lions responded in a huge way, as they went on a 10-0 run over the next four plus minutes. Starre would convert a pair of free throws in the final seconds to send Franciscan to the 4th down by eight.
  • Franciscan came out firing in the fourth as Baierl scored four points in the first minute, and Kelsey Scott-Avery made a three to cut the lead to five with eight minutes to play. Baierl would go another personal 4-0 run to cut it to within three with five minutes to play. Starre would give the Lady Barons their first lead this half, as she made a layup with two minutes to play. Leon made a jumper the next possesion to pull the lead up to three points. Carnuche would go 3-4 in two trips to the line to tie it up at 55-55. The Lady Barons had the ball coming out of timeout, as Baierl drove right, getting to the rim and finished. Franciscan had a two point lead with five seconds to play. Baierl was called for a foul on Alanna Dibble with one second left, and now two shots away from overtme. Dibble hit the first, but she missed the second, and Starre was able to come down with the rebound for the win.
