Men's Basketball to Host Penn St. Behrend on Saturday

STEUBENVILLE, OH - Franciscan is coming into this game after a tough fought loss to Penn St. Altoona on Wednesday night. The Barons remain in 8th place in the AMCC, on the outside looking in to the playoffs at the moment. Penn St. Behrend has won three straight, with the last two games being decided by one and two points respectively.

All-Time Series Against Penn St. Behrend
  • Franciscan is 1-22 all-time against the Lions, and they have lost the last 19 meetings.
  • Earlier this season the Lions bested the Barons 81-71 in Erie. Travis Lien made his season debut, as he scored a team high 19 points. Five Barons would score in double figure points in the loss. PJ Gourley led the Lions with 19 points with an efficient 5-6 shooting from the field, and he shot 8-8 from the free throw line. Four of the Lions five starter would score in double figures in the win.
  • The Last Baron victory came in January of 2010 as they won 67-64. Josh Ducoulombier hit a go ahead three with 0:14 remaining and Mike Feuz made two free throws to secure the victory. Matt Liedel led the Baron attack with 16 points and Thomas Kilenschnitz added 12 points. 
Scouting Franciscan
  • Travis Lien has played in nine games this season for the Barons, and he has scored in double digits in every single game this year.
  • Senior Matt Trent has been leading the offensive charge as of late. He is averaging 17.6 ppg in the last five games for the Barons.
  • Opponents are shooting 47.4% from the field this season against the Barons, the worst field goal percentage defense in the AMCC.
Scouting Penn St. Behrend
  • The Lions have arguably the best defense in the AMCC as they hold opponents to the lowest field goal percentage (41.5%) and least points (64.2 ppg).
  • Kenny Fukon has been the most consistent offensive player this season for the Lions, as he is averaging 15.8 ppg. He has scored in double figure points in every game, but one this season.
  • Derrick Clark has been their best option off the bench as of late. He score 19 points in their win at Mount Aloysius last Saturday.
