How It Happened
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Franciscan University picked up a game one victory over Cairn University by a score of 6-3 on Thursday March 12.
 
The Lady Barons jumped out to an early advantage, scoring in the first inning. Allyson Weiss led off the game with a single to center field. After Weiss stole second, Kathleen Thompson laid down a bunt single, allowing Weiss to score. Later in the inning, with Faith Pokryfke on second, Anna Swierczewski would perfectly place a triple down the right field line allowing Pokryfke to score and put Franciscan ahead 2-0.
 
In the circle starter Sarah Keating, would keep the Highlanders off balance, allowing just one run on six hits in the first five innings of action. Keating also recorded four strike outs in the first five innings.
 
The Lady Barons responded to Cairn's first run of the game, extending the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Weiss would lead off the inning with a single to center field. After she stole second, Thompson laid another great bunt, freezing the fielder and putting runners on the corners. Pokryfke laid down a sacrifice bunt allowing Weiss to score, putting Franciscan ahead 3-1. After Swierczewski walked and stole second, Jenny Massey hit a single into center field, allowing Thompson to score. Mary Roach came in to pinch run for Massey, and when she stole second base, Swierczewski was able to swipe home, putting the Lady Barons ahead 5-1.
 
Weiss would add another run for Franciscan in the bottom of the sixth inning. After she crushed a single into left field, she would steal second. Thompson would slap the ball toward second base, causing an error and allowing Weiss to score from second base. Cairn would start to rally in the seventh inning plating two runs, but Keating and Lady Baron's defense would close the door, picking up the 6-3 victory.  
 
 
At the Plate
- Franciscan was led by Allyson Weiss, who went 3-4 scoring three runs
- Anna Swierczewski went 2-3 with a triple, a run scored, and an RBI
- Jenny Massey also was 2-3 at the plate, driving in an RBI
- Kathleen Thompson went 2-4, scoring a run and driving in a RBI
- Faith Pokryfke drove in the teams other RBI

- Sarah Keating improved to 5-0 this season allowing three runs on 10 hits while posting four strikeouts

How It Happened
The Lady Barons fell in their game two matchup with Penn State Abington by a score of 2-1.

Franciscan got off to a slow start, struggling to get baserunners and falling behind 2-0 after Abington was able to plate a pair of runs in the third inning.

Franciscan looked to get going in the top of the fourth inning. Kathleen Thompson led off the inning by legging out a single to the pitcher. After she stole second base, Faith Pokryfke smashed a single into center field allowing Thompson to score.

In the circle, Elizabeth Thompson pitched six innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out five Lions.
The Lady Barons would get runners on base in the seventh inning, but could not rally and tie the game, falling 2-1.

At the Plate

- Kathleen Thompson went 1-3, scoring once
