How It Happened
STANTON, Va. – Franciscan University fell in game one of their double header with Mary Baldwin University on Saturday March 7 by a score of 16-2.
Mary Baldwin jumped on the Lady Barons in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on two errors to plate eight runs. Franciscan starter Elizabeth Thompson struggled to find her rhythm, so the Lady Barons turned to reliever
Aleia Hawk to get out of the first inning jam.
Allyson Weiss tried to jump start Franciscan's offense in the third inning, driving a single into right field and advancing to third base on an error by the Fighting Squirrels.
Kathleen Thompson used her speed on a single to the pitcher, narrowly beating the throw to first base allowing Weiss to score.
After Mary Baldwin plated a run in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Barons looked to answer back in the top of the fourth inning.
Faith Pokryfke single to right field, advancing to second on a Mary Baldwin error.
Rachel Cooper singled to the third base, beating the throw, and allowing Pokryfke to score. The Lady Barons would get runners into scoring position, but could not pull any closer.
The Fighting Squirrels would hit three home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning forcing Hawk from the circle. Elizabeth Thompson return to the circle to get the Lady Barons out of the jam, but Franciscan fell 16-2.

How It Happened
The Lady Barons rebounded from their game one defeat and rallied in the seventh inning to knock off Mary Baldwin 7-6.
In game two, Franciscan's offense struck first scoring in the first inning.
Allyson Weiss led off the game with a single into left center. She stole second and third bases, scoring on a throwing error. Later in the inning,
Dennise Carrazco drove a single into left center field.
Faith Pokryfke followed by smashing a home run over the left field fence, giving Franciscan a 3-0 lead.
Mary Baldwin would battle back, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second inning capitalizing on two fielding errors by the Lady Barons. Franciscan looked to answer right back with Weiss leading off the inning with a single to center field.
Kathleen Thompson laid down a sacrifice bunt allowing Weiss to reach second, and Weiss used her speed to force a pair of throwing errors and score, cutting the deficit back to two.
After a rocking second inning, starting pitcher
Sarah Keating settled in allowing just four hits the rest of the way and holding the Fighting Squirrels scoreless the rest of the way. In the fifth inning, Weiss crushed a double to right field which was her 100
th career hit. She is the first Lady Baron to reach this career mark.
The Lady Barons still trailed by two runs entering the seventh inning and looked to rally back.
Anna Fluharty led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch.
Mary Roach made the most of a pinch-hitting opportunity reach base after a field error by Mary Baldwin. This set the table for Weiss who launched a single into right field, allowing Fluharty to score. Weiss stole second base and, on the throw, Roach stole home tying the game at six. Thompson would lay down another sacrifice bunt allow Weiss to move over to third base. Carrazco would come through with an RBI single driving in Weiss and giving the Lady Barons the lead. Keating looked to finish off the comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning, forcing a line out to third base and a ground out to second base. She would then close out the win with a strikeout.
