Women's Tennis Defeats Washington & Jefferson

Franciscan 7, Washington & Jefferson 2

Steubenville, Ohio - The Franciscan Women's Tennis team improved to 9-1 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in PAC conference play with a win over Washington & Jefferson on Saturday 

Doubles
    The Lady Barons got off to a great start in doubles play. Caroline Picard and Laina Anderson were the first to finish, as they won 8-2 in #3 doubles. In #2 doubles, Haley Davinsizer and Zoey Stapleton had similar success, as they won 8-2. Then at #1 doubles Maria Herrera and Olivia Colby remained unbeaten, as they won 8-2.

Singles
    First off the court for Franciscan, was Haley Davinsizer who won a straight sets win at #5 singles. Then Washington & Jefferson was able to get their first team point off the day, as Zoey Stapleton fell in #3 singles. Caroline Picard won #4 singles, by only dropping two points in the two set match. In #6 singles it went to a third set, where Laina Anderson dominated 10-0 to win the 6th point of the day. 

After losing the first set in #2 singles, Olivia Colby battled back to win the second set in a tiebreaker. Then in the third set she battled hard, but narrowly lost 11-9. That was her first PAC conference loss of the season. The day would end on a positive note for Franicscan, as Maria Herrera won the #1 singles match. That match also went to three sets with Herrera closing it out with a 10-7 win. 

Who's Next? 
The Lady Barons are scheduled to get right back into action tomorrow against Wittenberg, as long as the forecasted rain holds off. The Lady Barons are in search of their first win all-time against the Tigers. These two teams have only met once, which came in 2016, a 4-5 loss for Franciscan.
