How It Happened
Franciscan made the trip to Meadville, Pennsylvania, and they suffered a loss to Allegheny by a score of 80-57. Madison Doan led all scorers with 26 points while a large second half for the Gators propelled them to the victory.
Madison Doan and the Lady Barons started out strong in the first quarter, as she would score Franciscan's first five points. Felicia MacGillivray connected on a three pointer to give Franciscan an early five point lead at 8-3. Doan would add six more points this quarter to help Franciscan take a lead into the second quarter with the score at 18-16.
An 8-0 Allegheny run would give the Gators a six point lead just three minutes into the second quarter. MacGillivray and Doan would dig Franciscan out of that hole, as MacGillivray made another three pointer and Doan a layup to cut it to a one point margin. Franciscan would be able to take the lead with three minutes left in the second quarter thanks to buckets by Jazzlyn Melnyk and Kimberly McDaniels. The Gators would go on a 4-1 run in the final thirty seconds to take a three point advantage into the second half.
Both teams started off the second half slow, but the Gators would take control with a five point lead three minutes into the third quarter. Ilena Gonzales would bury a three pointer to cut it to a two point deficit with five minutes to play in the quarter. Unfortunately that would be as close to the lead that Franciscan would get, as the Gators ended the quarter on a 12-4 run.
Madison Doan would finally snap the run in the fourth quarter, as she added two more layups in the fourth quarter. The Gators would be too much, as a couple big fourth quarter runs, including a 12-0 run would put the lead out of reach.

Up Next
Franciscan will take on another tough opponent on the road at Carnegie Mellon on Tuesday. The Lady Barons will be in search of their first win against the Tartans, as they are 0-3 all-time. Carnegie Mellon has played in a pair of early tournaments thus far with mixed results, but they are coming into this season without playing any games in the 2020-21 season.
