How It Happened
Franciscan made their longest trip to the south of the season on Saturday, as they played Waynesburg. The Yellow Jackets would jump out to an early lead, and be able to hold onto it for 40 minutes.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 7-0 lead, on a pair of jumpers from Fuller. MacGillivray would score Franciscan's first point on a free throw, but the Lady Barons would struggle to get their offense going in the first quarter. Kimberly McDaniels would make the team's first field goal with less that three minutes remaining in the first quarter. Doan added her first bucket of the day, as Waynesburg would take a 17-5 lead into the first break.

Waynesburg stayed on the attack to start the second quarter, as it started on a 12-2 run. The Lady Barons would end the quarter well, as Sophie LaRose scored her first bucket on a strong take to the basket, and Ilena Gonzales added five points with one three pointer. We would head to halftime trailing 39-17.

The Lady Barons would get the offense going in the third quarter, as they were able to cut into the Yellow Jackets lead. Franciscan would start the quarter on a 6-1 run, including a three pointer from MacGillivray. After a Waynesburg bucket, the Lady Barons would go on a 10-0 run over the next minute and a half to cut the lead to single digits at 42-33. The Yellow Jackets would end the quarter on a 9-1 run to stretch the lead back up to 52-35, as we headed to the fourth quarter.

Both teams saved their best for the last quarter, as it would be the highest scoring quarter of the day. Action was back and forth to start the quarter, as Melnyk connected on a pair of three pointers. Doan, MacGillivray and Gonzales each would get into double figures with buckets in the fourth, but the Waynesburg offense would prevail, as they would hold on to win 83-55.
