PAC Winter Sports Update

GREENVILLE, Pa.-The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) announced a number of updates impacting winter athletic competition during the Spring 2021 semester on Friday.

In response to the February 3 announcement that the NCAA Division III Administrative Committee, acting on behalf of the Division III Management and Presidents Council, approved the recommendation from the Division III Championships Committee to cancel all winter championships, the PAC Presidents' Council supported a proposal from the PAC Athletic Administrators' Council to extend the regular season for men's and women's basketball to Wednesday, March 10.

The opening rounds of the PAC Men's and Women's Basketball Championship Tournaments are now scheduled for Saturday, March 13 with the title games slated for Saturday, March 20. In an adjustment to previous championship tournament formatting, all men's and women's programs will secure spots in this year's championship tournaments.

The men's and women's swimming and diving regular season is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday, Feb. 23, with the PAC Championships set for Monday-Friday, March 1-5 at Grove City College. The conference championships will be held at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool, home of the league's swimming and diving championships since 1990.

This year the PAC Swimming and Diving Championships will be conducted using the NCAA's four-day, common-site program. Women's swimming events will take place on Monday and Thursday, with men's swimming events taking place on Tuesday and Friday. Days one and two of the four-day program will be conducted in the morning and evening sessions, respectively, on the first day of competition. Days three and four of the four-day program will be conducted in the morning and evening sessions, respectively, on the second day of competition. Men's and women's one-meter and three-meter diving will be conducted on Wednesday.

During its Feb. 3 call the PAC Presidents' Council also affirmed a recommendation of the PAC Athletic Administrators' Council to cancel the league's wrestling championships, which had been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20. On November 20, 2020 the PAC Presidents' Council backed a recommendation of the PAC Athletic Administrators' Council to cancel the league's indoor track and field championships, which were scheduled for the end of February.

The PAC Presidents' Council continues to endorse member schools sponsoring indoor track and field and wrestling to pursue opportunities for non-conference competition consistent with local, state and federal public health authorities, the NCAA Sport Science Institute (SSI) and institutional guidelines and policies.

Updates on the scheduling models and postseason championship opportunities for the traditional fall sports competing this spring, along with the traditional spring sports, will be announced soon.

The PAC Presidents' Council, in consultation with the conference-wide working groups (Health and Safety, Scheduling and Financial Considerations), the PAC Athletic Administrators' Council and sport-specific coaching groups, continues its ongoing review and planning for a return to competition in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Due to the extraordinary disruptions related to COVID-19, the PAC and the PAC Presidents' Council understand that plans for returning to competition and current schedule models are subject to change at any time based on available public health best practices and approaches or local, state and federal guidelines, recommendations or mandates.
