Pittsburgh, Pa. - Franciscan University got their 2021 season off to a start on the road at #15 Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans would win 9-0.
Singles
The first match completed was in #1 singles, as
Gary Pierre would fall in straight sets. Senior
Christian Cappello would have similar fate in #5 singles play. Freshman
Aidan Palladino would also fall in straight sets in the #6 spot.
Billy Presume would battle hard in the #2 spot, as he fell 6-4, 6-1.
Luke Conrad would also fall by the same score as Presume in the #3 spot.
Aidan Howard would battle hard as well in the #4 spot, as he fell 6-3, 6-1.
Doubles
The #1 doubles team of
Gary Pierre and
Billy Presume would fall in straight sets, as well as the #3 doubles team of
Aidan Howard and
Joseph Suess.
Luke Conrad and
Joe Mulligan would have more luck in #2 doubles as they battled to an 8-3 loss.
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will hit the road next weekend for their longest road trip of the season, as they head to Cleveland to take on Case Western Reserve. The Barons are 0-3 all-time against the Spartans, with each win being in sweeping fashion. The two teams have not faced off since the spring of 2018. Now senior,
Luke Conrad competed in #5 singles and #3 doubles against the Spartans in 2018, and looks to improve off of his two hard fought losses.Â
