Franciscan 0, Carnegie Mellon 9
Pittsburgh, Pa. - Franciscan University Lady Barons Tennis team started their season on the road at #5 ranked Carnegie Mellon. They would battle hard, but fall 9-0 in the non-conference opener.
Singles
Freshman
Maria Herrera would play a very strong match, in her college debut at #1 singles. She would fall 6-1, 6-4. Her doubles partner
Ana Victoria Haddad did not have as much sucess, as she fell in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.
Zoey Stapleton would go down in the same fashion as Haddad at the #3 singles spot.
Haley Davinsizer would battle at #4 singles, but would fall 6-1, 6-0.
Caroline Picard would fall 6-0, 6-0 in #5 singles play.Â
Susan Schuberg would have similar fate in her first career singles match at #6, as she fell 6-0, 6-0.Â
Doubles
The #1 doubles team battled extremely hard with the duo of
Ana Victoria Haddad and
Maria Herrera battling to an 8-4 defeat. The sophomore pairing of
Haley Davinsizer and
Zoey Stapleton did not fare as well in their 8-1 loss.
Caroline Picard and
Susan Schuberg would have the same fate, as they fell 8-1 in #3 doubles.Â
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will return to prepare for the their first ever PAC conference match coming up against Geneva on March 24th. The Lab\dy Barons are 1-1 all-time against the Golden Tornadoes, but the two teams have not squared off since 2011. The Lady Barons would sneak out a 5-4 win that day in Beaver Falls, Pa.
