Beaver Falls, Pa. - Franciscan University Lady Barons Tennis team started off PAC conference play at Geneva on Wednesday night, as the swept the Golden Tornadoes 9-0 to win their first ever PAC match and start conference play off 1-0. The Golden Tornadoes were 2-0 coming into today's matchup. Franciscan now joins Grove City and Westminster as the only unbeaten teams in conference play in the early goings of the 2020-21 season.Â
Doubles
The #1 doubles pairing of
Maria Herrera and
Ana Victoria Haddad took care of business by winning in straight sets 8-0.
Zoey Stapleton and
Haley Davinsizer, the #2Â duo, would battle in the closest doubles match of the night, by winning 8-5. Finally in #3 doubles
Caroline Picard and
Alyce Davis would win 8-3. It would be

Singles
Freshman
Maria Herrera would continue her dominance, as she won in straight sets in #1 singles. Senior leader
Ana Victoria Haddad would win at the #2 spot by the score of 6-3, 6-1.
Haley Davinsizer would win in the #3 spot 6-3, 6-0. Fellow sophomore
Caroline Picard also worked efficiently in her 6-2, 6-1. The closest, longest matches would come at the #3 and #6 singles. At #3,
Zoey Stapleton battled out a 6-4, 6-4 win. While at #6,
Susan Schuberg won her first collegiate match by a score of 6-4, 6-3.Â
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will return home for their first home PAC contest on Friday against Waynesburg. The Lady Barons and Yellow Jackets have never faced each other in tennis, this will be the first conference matchup of many to come in the future. This will be Waynesburg's first match of the 2020-21 season, as they are attempting to improve on their winless PAC conference record in 2019.Â
