Waynesburg, Pa. - Franciscan University flipped their originally scheduled home match to an away match, at Waynesburg on Friday. The visiting Lady Barons would not let the travel bother them, as they earned their second PAC win, in as many matches. The Lady Barons are quietly climbing up the PAC standings, in their first season competing in the conference.
Doubles
First off the court was the stellar duo of
Zoey Stapleton and
Caroline Picard, as they would improve to 2-0 in conference doubles with an 8-3 win in the #2 spot.
Maria Herrera and
Ana Victoria Haddad would keep up their early dominance, by winning in straight sets again, at #1, 8-0.
Caroline Picard and
Alyce Davis completed the doubles sweep at #3 with an 8-0 win.
Singles
Maria Herrera finished off her stellar day with a 6-0, 6-0 straight sets win over Kyleigh Scmidt in #1 singles. Next off the court was fellow freshman
Susan Schuberg would would also win in straight sets, 6-0 6-0 in #6 singles.
Haley Davinsizer was next to finish for the Lady Barons, as she was victorious at the #4 spot 6-0, 6-1. Senior captain,
Ana Victoria Haddad, would take care of business at the #2 spot with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Caroline Picard would notch her second singles win of the season at the #5 spot, by winning today 6-0, 6-1. In #3 singles,
Zoey Stapleton would battle Hayley Sweeney to a 6-4 win in set one and a more controlled 6-1 win in set two to secure the sweep of singles play.
Who's Next?
Franciscan will return home for a 1:00 p.m. match against Thiel tomorrow. This is the first match between the Tomcats and Lady Barons. The Tomcats have struggled in the early going of this season, as they hold an 0-3 record so far.
