How It HappenedÂ
The Franciscan Lady Barons Volleyball team fell to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Grove City in straight sets on Friday March 19.
The Lady Barons would keep pace with the Wolverines throughout most of the first set, using a kill by Renee Antonelli and back-to-back kills by Emily Nutter to tie the first set at 10. Grove City would respond, going on a 5-0 to take back the lead. Marykate Taylor and Antonelli would add kills later in the set, but the Lady Barons could not cut into the Wolverines lead, dropping the first set 25-18.
Grove City would use a 7-1 run early in the second set to jump out to a 11-4 lead. The Lady Barons would rally back using kills by Taylor and Antonelli to spark a 6-0 pulling Franciscan within a single point. Franciscan stayed within striking distance capitalize on a couple Wolverine hitting errors and a big block by Nutter and Maria Bosco. Grove City would regroup winning the final five points of the set, capturing the second set 25-17.
Franciscan could not over come early deficit in the third despite a strong defensive effort by starting libero Lauren Betar who led the team with 14 digs. Grace Wallace, Taylor, and Antonelli were also factors on the defense end, each recording nine digs. Grove City would close the third set on an 8-1 run to pick up the victory.Â

Franciscan will remain at home, as they face Bethany on Monday night at 7 pm. The Lady Barons are 1-10 all-time against the Bison with a win happening in their last matchup in 2019. On September 11, 2019 the Lady Barons won 3-1 at Bethany. It was an amazing comeback after a 6-25 loss in set one, the Lady Barons did not quit. They would win the next set by a score of 33-31 before two more close wins at 25-19 and 25-22. Lauren Betar had 13 digs, and Emily Nutter had 10 assists in the victory.
