How It HappenedÂ
The Franciscan Men's Lacrosse team fell in its nonconference matchup with Chatham University by a score of 16-5 despite a pair of goals from both Gavin Cook and Daniel Clayton.Â
Chatham got off to a fast start netting five goals in the first period, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Gavin Cook would get the Barons scoring an unassisted goal in the closing seconds of the first quarter. After a Cougars goal to open the second quarter, Franciscan would again find the back of the net with Daniel Clayton scoring an unassisted goal. Clayton came up huge for the Barons winning 18 face offs for the Barons, recording 14 ground balls along the way. With under a minute to go in the second quarter, Seth Arangua found an open Joe Miraglia who convert the scoring opportunity. Franciscan trailed 8-3 heading into the half.
The Cougars would dominate the third quarter, finding the back of the net seven times to build a 12 goal advantage. The Barons would not quit however playing sound lacrosse resulting in a Cook goal with 9:15 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Barons would then take advantage of a Chatham penalty with Clayton scoring his second goal of the game of a pass from Cook. The Barons could not get any closer, falling 16-5.
Inside the NumbersÂ
- Daniel Clayton had an outstanding performance winning 18 face offs for the Barons, corralling 14 ground balls and scoring a pair of goals
- Gavin Cook continued his strong start to the season, scoring a pair of goals and recorded an assist
- Micah Eby recorded a game high nine saves
- Joe Miraglia found the back of the for the third time this season
- The Barons played their cleanest game of the season, committing only one penalty.Â
- Chatham was led by Daniel Napier who scored 4 goals on six shots
- The Cougars won the ground ball battle, 78-58
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will hit the road for the first time this season, as the head to Thiel for a Friday night game. The Barons are in search of their first win against Thiel, as they hold an 0-4 record all-time. This will be Thiel's second game of the season, as they play Bethany next Tuesday to open up their season.
